About this content
The lack of insertion of women in areas such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, engineering and computing is a demonstration of how women are affected. Few women are remembered for their great achievements, their contributions are gradually forgotten by society. From this perspective, this project aimed to encourage high school girls from the state public school system, through an introductory course in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects and their intersections, to arouse interest in Computer courses and their Technologies, so that they feel motivated to start and pursue a career in the area of Information Technology (IT), aiming to increase the representation of women in this field. Mermãs Digitais in 2022 lasted 8 months, in two cycles of 3 months, with a morning and afternoon class of 40 students each, during which a series of activities and discussions were carried out to emphasize the importance of female participation in the area of Computing. The methodology adopted in this proposal consists of theoretical and practical classes, taught by students of the Computer Science course. The theoretical classes were presented in a clear and objective way, addressing basic concepts of programming, games, robotics, 3D printing, office tools and other computer disciplines. The practical classes were held in computer labs, using development software and robotics resources. As a result, the training of 80 girls was achieved, the publication of the project in 5 different articles in Women in Information Technology (WIT) at the Congress of the Brazilian Computer Society and the submission of the experience report of the extension action in an E-Book by the IFMA publisher. In the end, it was noticed that the experience made it possible to identify and overcome the difficulties of the girls in not being able to feel capable of entering areas said to be male through the actions of the project, in addition to achieving the feat that two graduating students obtained approval in the courses of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at IFMA - Imperatriz Campus. As future proposals, the project intends to expand its actions to elementary level classes of municipal schools and offer professional training in the area through initial and continuing training courses in the area of WEB development.
