About this content
This article presents a case study of the Mermãs Digitais extension project of the Federal Institute of Maranhão – Imperatriz Campus, aimed at including girls in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM). It analyzes the 2025 edition, which offered robotics and digital game development courses to girls from public schools. The selection process received 127 applicants, of whom 39 enrolled, resulting in a completion rate above 90%. The analysis is based on institutional data, documentary records, and participants' testimonies. The results indicate high engagement among the students and reinforce the potential of extension initiatives to expand female participation in technology.
